My name is Jeremy Collyer and I have decided to challenge myself to row across the Atlantic Ocean with my daughter, Liz.
I have signed up with The World’s Toughest Row (WTR), an organisation that has been in existence for many years who set up a transatlantic race every year.
So why have I decided to take this challenge?
I am 68 and comfortable in retirement. I am fit and relatively healthy. Many dear family members and friends have been less fortunate. Diagnoses of cancer, heart failure, stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s and many more have affected people’s lives and ended lives prematurely.
Having watched Liz and her crew and witnessed other rowers complete the challenge in January/February 2026 I felt that I should not just relax into retirement. I need to stretch myself while I am able to do so and while I challenge myself I am also very proud to be able to raise money for a fantastic local charity, The Balsam Centre, a welcoming community hub in the heart of Wincanton, dedicated to helping people of all ages live healthier, happier lives.
WTR have offered us a place in the race that will start on 12 December 2028. I will be 70 that year, but certainly not the oldest rower to have taken on the challenge. I now have two years to prepare and I need your help and support.
Hi, I’m Liz Collyer!
In early February 2026, I stepped off our boat in Antigua after 50 days at sea with Team Merched Y Môr, proud to be part of the first all-Welsh female crew to complete the World’s Toughest Row. When I set out across the Atlantic, my biggest hope was to prove that ordinary people can do extraordinary things—and maybe inspire someone along the way to take on a challenge of their own.
I just never expected that person to be my Dad!
Seeing our journey inspired Dad to sign up for his own Atlantic crossing. He originally signed up as a solo rower, but I decided there was no way I was letting him do this alone. I’m stepping back into the boat for round two!
As anyone who followed my first row knows, the ocean isn't easy on me - I spent my first 10 days severely incapacitated by seasickness. Because of those tough opening days, it’s vital that Dad masters handling the boat as a solo rower so he can take the helm single-handedly while I recover my sea legs.
Together, we’re aiming to beat my previous time of 50-days as a Father-Daughter team. But more than that, I'm rowing with a purpose: to raise vital funds for Little Acorns Voices, a incredible cause that provides speech and language therapy to non-verbal children. This cause was set up by my fellow Merched y Môr teammate.
Every wave we battle and every mile we row is dedicated to helping these amazing young people find their voice. Thank you so much for following our journey and supporting our mission!
Together Father and Daughter will be a formidable team. In fact we may qualify for a World Record for a Father- Daughter crossing with a combined age over 110 years
The knowledge and experience that Liz will bring to the team will be invaluable.
They enjoy each others company, an essential quality that will be needed on an Atlantic crossing that could take 65 days or more.
To get them to the start they do need you help and support. We have a lot to do. We need to buy a boat and equip it to World's Toughest Row standards. Jeremy has to undertake all the mandatory shore based courses, First aid, VHF Radio Communications, Sea Survival and Navigation while Liz only has to repeat her First Aid course. Jeremy also needs to be trained to be a solo rower and will book a course with Rannoch Adventure in Burnham on Crouch. The boat has to be shipped to La Gomera and then returned from Antigua.

Teams will row more than 3,000 miles unaided across open sea from the Canary Islands to the Carribbean. This race involves a gruelling row for up to 60 days, with our bodies and minds being tested to their limits. Crossing the Atlantic ocean in a rowing boat is not for the faint hearted. More people have gone into space than have crossed this treacherous stretch of sea, with up to 20-foot waves to battle. We’re made of tough stuff, being on the edge of the sea, so we know that we have the determination and motivation to complete this test for ourselves and for our chosen charities.
